Auf einer Seite ist dies ein „Call for Pictures“, ein Hinweis darauf, dass es nur noch 7 Wochen bis zum Einsendeschluss sind. Bis dahin müsst ihr eine gute Serie ausgesucht haben, müsst euch angemeldet und die Anmeldegebühr überwiesen haben. Und ihr müsst eure Bilder eingesendet haben. Eine Checkliste für die Teilnahme und alle notwendigen Unterlagen gibt es auf unserer Homepage. Was man für eine gute Serie beachten sollte, hab ich hier einmal versucht zusammenzufassen. Das klingt alles kompliziert und mühsam. Insofern kann man sich schon die Frage stellen „Und was hab ich davon?“ Diese Frage generiert Antworten auf verschiedenen Ebenen. Zum einen bekommt ihr die Chance, dass eure Serie im Herbst ausgestellt wird und wenn ihr sehr gut seid, könnt ihr auch einen unserer Hauptpreise gewinnen (insgesamt immerhin über 3000.-€ ). Zum anderen tragt ihr vor allem durch eure Teilnahme dazu bei, dass dieses Format, das 25 Jahre lang in der Gemeinde Schömberg beheimatet war, jetzt in Pforzheim auf einer etwas breiteren Grundlage weitergeführt werden kann.
Und schließlich geht es auch darum entgegen dem Trend zur Videotisierung und TikTokisierung der Diskurse und Erzählungen eure eigenen Anliegen, Ansichten und Erzählungen in einem etwas langsameren, nachdenklicheren Medium zu präsentieren. Unterstützt durch Serientitel und Benennung der einzelnen Bilder kann eine Serie einen Sachverhalt oder eine Geschichte so offen präsentieren, dass sowohl für eure Absichten als auch für die Interpretation der Betrachtenden Platz bleibt.
Wenn ihr nicht teilnehmen könnt oder wollt, gibt es natürlich auch die Gelegenheit uns finanziell zu unterstützen. Auch kleinere Beträge helfen uns, diese sonst komplett ehrenamtlich und gemeinnützig durchgeführte Kulturarbeit auch in Zukunft weiterzuführen.
Apropos Zukunft. Wenn der Wettbewerb gut läuft und die Ausstellung im Herbst ein Erfolg wird, dann sind wir 2028 wieder am Start. Zugegeben das Format von Bilderserien war ursprünglich sehr stark an Profis und die Printmedien gebunden, die sich ja bekanntermaßen beide zunehmend in Nischen zurückziehen müssen. Die Bilderserie vor allem in dem hier gepflegten Themenkreis Reise- und Reportagephotographie ist aber in den letzten Jahren immer mehr auch von ambitionierten Amateuren und eher künstlerisch orientierten Zeitgenossen weiter betrieben und entwickelt worden. Reisen ist auch etwa was inzwischen fast jede:r macht und Reportagen kann man über alles machen, was einem Interessantes über den Weg läuft. Also traut euch auch gegen den Trend zu agieren.

For one thing, you get the chance to have your series exhibited in the fall, and if you’re really good, you could also win one of our grand prizes (totaling over €3,000). On the other hand, your participation helps ensure that this format—which has been based in the municipality of Schömberg for 25 years—can now continue in Pforzheim on a slightly broader scale.
And finally, it’s also about presenting your own concerns, views, and narratives in a somewhat slower, more contemplative medium, countering the trend toward the “videotization” and “TikTokization” of discourse and storytelling. Supported by series titles and captions for individual images, a series can present a subject or story in such an open way that there is room for both your intentions and the viewers’ interpretations.
If you are unable or unwilling to participate, there is of course also the opportunity to support us financially. Even small amounts help us continue this cultural work—which is otherwise carried out entirely on a volunteer and non-profit basis—into the future.
Speaking of the future: if the competition goes well and the exhibition in the fall is a success, we’ll be back in 2028. Admittedly, the format of photo series was originally very closely tied to professionals and print media, both of which, as is well known, are increasingly having to retreat into niche markets. However, in recent years, the photo series—especially within the realm of travel and reportage photography that we focus on here—has increasingly been pursued and developed by ambitious amateurs and more artistically oriented individuals. Travel is something almost everyone does these days, and you can create reportages about anything interesting that crosses your path. So don’t be afraid to go against the trend.
