Perfect

Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.

Albert Einstein

I photographed flowers and other plants for fifteen years and always looked at two aspects; that it is beautiful and that it is interesting. Now I show in an exhibition in the foyer of the children’s clinic Schömberg that norm variants, deviations, advanced stadiums and unique manifestations can be beautiful and interesting at the same time.

I have been a physiotherapist in a Children’s Hospital for 27 years. At least as long with different motivations and ideas on the go with the camera. Founding member of the local photo club, member of the organizing team Fotoherbst Schömberg for ten years. Since 2019 initiator and author of this blog.

You can find my flower pictures on the internet in the different flickr albums about flowers.  Meanwhile this is a huge collection structured only by the occurrence e.g. Wildflowers  or the species like poppies , orchids  or others.

For this exhibition, however, I have resorted to a concept to select the images for it. It was about finding the work with handicapped children also in my spare time employment. I found it in the pictures I made of flowers, because I found them interesting, also beautiful but above all interesting. The exciting thing is that I have always done such pictures but rarely showed them.

Born that way” is the title of a book written by Earl R. Carlson, a man with a dyskinetic movement disorder who has managed to become a doctor against all odds. Instead of squinting about what would have been normal or optimal, he made the most of what was available. That’s the suggestion: instead of squinting at the beauty ideal or the performance optimum, learning what is there is not just the only thing available to us, but that, beyond, it is perfect as it is.

I see these pictures as a plea for diversity, personal development, the right to be different and social acceptance in today’s uncertain time.

The Vernissage takes place on Sept. 3rd, 2019 at 4 pm in the foyer of the children’s hospital, Römerweg 7 in 75328 Schömberg. The small exhibition can be visited every day from then until the end of November.
