Schon der Titel spricht mich an. Ja, ich habe in Reutlingen gelebt und ich habe auch in Reutlingen gearbeitet. Die meiste Zeit bin ich zwar zur Schule gegangen, aber die Ferien bestanden damals aus sechs Wochen arbeiten und sechs Wochen reisen. Ich arbeitete in der Galvanik und in der Bürstenfabrik (die es, soweit ich gesehen habe, heut noch gibt). Ich hab auch in dem alten Ziegel-Fabrikgebäude gearbeitet (Emil Adolf), dass später als „Bauhaus“-Baumarkt diente und zurzeit nicht so recht weiß, was es mit sich anfangen soll. Zugegeben das ich schon über 45 Jahre her, aber eine Verbindung gibt es immer noch.
Also habe ich, sobald ich die Ankündigung der Ausstellung in Horsts Blog gesehen hatte, nach einem Termin gesucht, an dem ich einen Besuch bei meiner Mutter (die immer noch i Reutlingen wohnt) mit einem Ausstellungsbesuch verbinden konnte. Meine Wahl fiel auf einen Samstag im Rahmen der interkulturellen Woche Reutlingen. Und das war eine gute Wahl, da es den richtigen Rahmen für diese Ausstellung abgab.
The title alone appeals to me. Yes, I lived in Reutlingen and I also worked in Reutlingen. Most of the time I went to school, but the vacations at that time consisted of six weeks working and six weeks travelling. I worked in the electroplating shop and in the brush factory (which, as far as I have seen, still exists today). I also worked in the old brick factory building (Emil Adolf), which later served as a “Bauhaus” building market and at the moment doesn’t really know what to do with itself. Granted that I already over 45 years ago, but a connection still exists.
So, as soon as I saw the announcement of the exhibition in Horst’s blog, I looked for a date on which I could combine a visit to my mother (who still lives i Reutlingen) with a visit to the exhibition. My choice fell on a Saturday during the intercultural week Reutlingen. And that was a good choice, as it provided the right setting for this exhibition.
In der VHS, mitten im Museumsviertel Reutlingens, unweit des Museumsgartens, in dem eine Folklore-Band spielte, waren die Bilder ausgestellt. Aber Halt! Bilder trifft es nicht ganz. Es waren gestaltete Tableaus, auf denen neben einem Titel und Text auch vier bis fünf Bilder zu sehen waren. Jeweils individuelle, aber durchgängig gestaltete Portraits von Reutlingern: Meist Einzelpersonen, aber auch mal eine Familie oder ein Team, wie z.B. das von der Müllabfuhr. Die Portraits gehen quer durch die Bevölkerung. Vom, jungen Busfahrer bis zur grauhaarigen Lehrerin, von der Feuerwehr bis zum Symphonieorchester, vom Sport bis zum Theater.
In the VHS, in the middle of the museum district of Reutlingen, not far from the museum garden in which a folklore band was playing, the pictures were exhibited. But stop! Pictures is not quite the right word. They were designed tableaus on which, in addition to a title and text, four to five pictures could be seen. In each case, individual but consistently designed portraits of inhabitants of Reutlingen: Mostly individuals but also sometimes a family or a team, such as that of the garbage collection. The portraits go across the population. From the young bus driver to the gray-haired teacher, from the fire department to the symphony orchestra, from sports to theatre.
Ich hatte Glück und traf dort den Horst, der mir ein wenig über die Entstehung. Finanzierung und das Ringen um die richtige Präsentation berichtet hat. Was der Sichtbarkeit dieses Projektes sicher gutgetan hat, war, dass der GEA, der Reutlinger Generalanzeiger einige der Portraits als Artikelserie gebracht hat, sodass ich Besucher sagen hörte: „Ja, den hab ich auch schon in der Zeitung gesehen”.
Wer die Ausstellung noch sehen will, muss sich beeilen. Sie ist bis 28.10.23 in der VHS in Reutlingen zu sehen. Ob es weitere Ausstellungsorte geben wird, ist noch nicht klar. Wer noch einen lebendigeren Eindruck bekommen möchte, kann sich den Blogbeitrag von Horst Hirning anschauen.
Erstaunlich an dem Projekt ist, dass sich ein Photoclub daran wagt ein dokumentarisches, sozialpolitisches Thema anzugehen, es durchzieht und damit eine hohe Sichtbarkeit erreicht. Gut, den Photoclub Reutlingen gibt es seit vielen Jahrzehnten, er ist etabliert, mitgliedsstark und hat einen sehr aktiven Vorstand. Schon mein Vater war ein paar Jahre Mitglied dort, was natürlich auch dazu beiträgt, dass ich mich diesem Club verbundener fühle als anderen.
Was mich besonders gefreut hat ist, dass Mitglieder des Projektteams am 27.11. abends um 19.00 ins Kurhaus nach Schömberg kommen werden, um am „Abend der Photoclubs“ über das Projekt zu berichten. Bleibt zu hoffen, dass auch andere Clubs die Anregung aufnehmen und solche spannenden und relevanten Projekte realisieren.
I was lucky and met Horst there, who told me a little about the creation of the exhibition, Financing and the struggle to find the right presentation. What certainly helped the visibility of this project was that the GEA, the Reutlinger Generalanzeiger (local newspaper) brought some of the portraits as a series of articles, so that I heard visitors say: “Yes, I’ve also seen him in the newspaper”.
Who still wants to see the exhibition must hurry. It is to be seen to 28.10.23 in the VHS in Reutlingen. Whether there will be other exhibition venues is not yet clear. If you want to get a more vivid impression, you can have a look at the blog post of Horst Hirning.
What is amazing about this project is that a photo club dares to tackle a documentary, socio-political topic, pulls it off and thus achieves a high level of visibility. Well, the Photoclub Reutlingen has been around for many decades, is well established, has a strong membership and a very active board. Even my father was a member there for a few years, which of course also contributes to the fact that I feel more connected to this club than others.
What pleased me particularly is that members of the project team will come to Schömberg on 27.11. in the evening at 19.00 in the Kurhaus to report on the project at the “evening of the photo clubs”. Let’s hope that other clubs take up the suggestion and realize such exciting and relevant projects.
