Die Photofestivals werden immer gigantischer, die ausgestellten Bilder immer größer, die ausgestellten Photograph:innen immer berühmter, die Budgets sprengen die Grenzen der Vorstellungskraft. Überall? Nein es gibt einen kleinen Ort im Nordschwarzwald, wo die Zeit stehen geblieben zu sein scheint, wo mit fast unvorstellbarer Beharrungskraft eine kleine Gemeinde mit Hilfe einer bunt zusammengewürfelten Truppe an Ehrenamtlichen ein biennales Photofestival organisiert, dass sich nicht nur an die Interessierten in der Umgebung richtet.
Der Wettbewerb und die Entscheidung welche Bilder gezeigt werden ist schon gelaufen (ich hatte berichtet) , im Oktober kann man nun die besten Serien aus den Kategorien in Ausstellungen sehen.
Zum einen die Hauptausstellung mit den besten Serien der Kategorie Profis in Rathaus, Haus Bühler (gleich neben dem Rathaus) und im Kurhaus. Zum anderen in der Straßengallerie in den Schaufenstern des örtlichen Einzelhandels, wo man die 20 besten Serien der Amateure bewundern kann. Der Focus liegt wie immer bei diesem Event auf der Reise- und Reportagephotographie. Die Vernissage am So, den 8.10.23 um 11.00 Uhr umfasst diesmal einen Rundgang durch alle drei Ausstellungen der Profi-Kategorie. Die Bilder der Amateure muss man sich bei einem Spaziergang durch den Ort erlaufen.
The photo festivals are getting more and more gigantic, the exhibited pictures bigger and bigger, the exhibited photographers more and more famous, the budgets beyond the limits of imagination. Everywhere? No, there is a small town in the northern Black Forest where time seems to have stood still, where with almost unimaginable perseverance a small community, with the help of a motley crew of volunteers, organizes a biennial photo festival that is not only aimed at those interested in the area.
The competition and the decision which pictures will be shown has already run (I had reported), in October you can now see the best series from the categories in exhibitions.
On the one hand the main exhibition with the best series of the category professionals in the town hall, Haus Bühler (right next to the town hall) and in the Kurhaus. On the other hand in the street gallery in the shop windows of the local retailers, where you can admire the 20 best series of the amateurs. As always, the focus of this event is on travel and reportage photography. This time, the opening on Sunday the 8th of October at 11 o`clock includes a tour of all three exhibitions of the professional category. For the images of the amateurs you have to walk through the village.
Zudem gibt es ab Anfang Oktober (Eröffnung am 4.10. um 14.00 Uhr) im Kurpark eine Outdoorausstellung mit runden Bildern. Rafael Cardenas hat aus Satelliten-Aufnahmen wahre Kunstwerke kreiert, die das Zusammenspiel von Natur und menschlicher Einwirkung auf die Natur zeigen. Deswegen der von John Irving ausgeliehene Titel „Gottes Werk und Teufels Beitrag“. Inzwischen gibt es einige Künstler, die Ähnliches machen, aber Cardenas war einer der Ersten und wurde schon vor ein paar Jahren mit solchen Bildern im ZKM in Karlsruhe ausgestellt.
In addition, from the beginning of October (Opening on 4th of October at 2 p.m.) there will be an outdoor exhibition of round images in the spa park. Rafael Cardenas has created true works of art from satellite images that show the interplay of nature and human impact on nature. Hence the title borrowed from John Irving, “God’s Work and the Devil’s Contribution.” In the meantime, there are several artists who do something similar, but Cardenas was one of the first and was already exhibited with such pictures at the ZKM in Karlsruhe a few years ago.
Im Rahmenprogramm gibt es dieses Jahr zu ersten Mal eine Reihe von Dokumentarfilmen über Photograph:innen bzw. Photographie im örtliche Kurtheater, das von einer ganz eigenen Atmosphäre geprägt ist. Zu sehen sein wird „Koudelka Shooting Holy Land“ am Di, dem 10.10.23 um 19,30, „Das Salz der Erde“, der epische Film von Wim Wenders über Sebastiao Salgado am Di, dem 17.10.23 um 19.30 und „Augenblicke: Gesichter einer Reise“ (Agnes Varda meets StreetArt) am Di, dem 24.10.23 um 19.30 Ich freue mich selbst schon sehr auf diesen Programmpunkt.
In the supporting program this year for the first time there will be a series of documentaries about photographers and photography in the local Kurtheater, which is characterized by its own atmosphere. Wie auch in vorangegangenen Jahren gibt es auch Fotoworkshops, die man buchen kann. Dieses Jahr mit dem Team von www.fototouren.net Es geht am Freitagnachmittag den 27.10.23 auf den Aussichtsturm `Himmelsglück´. Am Samstag, dem 28.10. ganztägig auf den Weißtannenerlebnispfad in Schömberg. Unter anderem geht es um Waldhonig. Samstagabend ab 18.30 steht noch mal der Aussichtsturm im Mittelpunkt. Für alle Workshops werden photographische Grundkenntnisse vorausgesetzt. Die Kosten liegen bei 49-149 € pro Kurs.
Einen echten lokalen Leckerbissen, sozusagen `Schwarzwälder Schinken´ für Vegetarier gibt es am 14.10. von 14 bis 18 Uhr zu erleben. Eine `Wildkräuter und -gemüse Wanderung´ inklusive Photogelegenheit und anschließendem Verzehr in der Dorfscheune Bieselsberg. Kostenanteil 49 €

As in previous years, there are also photo workshops that you can book. This year with the team of www.fototouren.net It starts on Friday afternoon the 27.10.23 on the observation tower ‘sky luck’. On Saturday, the 28.10. all day on the silver fir experience path in Schömberg. Among other things, it `s about forest honey. Abschließend möchte ich noch auf eine Veranstaltung aufmerksam machen, die mir besonders wichtig ist da sie hoffentlich zu einem intensiveren Austausch der vielen Amateurphotographen in der näheren und ferneren Region beiträgt. Es ist der `Abend der Photoclubs´ am 27.10. ab 19.00 Uhr im Kurhaus Schömberg. Einige Photoclubs und -vereinigungen werden Projekte vorstellen (weitere Anmeldungen erwünscht!) und es ist ein offener Abend, zu dem alle Interessierten eingeladen sind.

Finally I would like to draw your attention to an event, which is especially important to me as it will hopefully contribute to a more intensive exchange of the many amateur photographers in the near and far region. It is the ‘Evening of the Photo-clubs’ on 27.10. from 19.00 o’clock in the Kurhaus Schömberg. Some photo-clubs and -associations will present projects (more registrations welcome!) and it is an open evening to which all interested people are invited.
I am looking forward to a nice festival in October in Schömberg.
Ich plane, zur Vernissage zu kommen und bin schon gespannt auf den Rundgang. Es ist gut, dass es tagsüber stattfindet, da bleibt mir als Tagesgast mehr Gelegenheit, alle Serien zu schauen. Zu den Workshops, Vorführungen und Wanderungen werde ich es wohl leider nicht schaffen, vor allem des weiten Wegs wegen, nicht aus mangelndem Interesse.
Freut mich, dass du kommst. Es ist im übrigen auch ein verkaufsoffener Sonntag.
Es wird also auch sonst einiges geboten, wenn man durch den Ort wandert.
