Photojahr 2023 / Photoyear 2023

Let’s dare to look ahead. At least in the diary, the crystal ball doesn’t show much concrete yet. But a lot is planned. For me, of course, the `Schömberger Fotoherbst´ has been particularly important every two years since 2009. For those who don’t know, it’s a photo festival in October 2023, but to make it an impressive festival, everything is already planned and can start in January. From then on, a series of pictures can be sent in for the competition. On the Fotoherbst homepage  you will find (if you scroll all the way down also in english language) all the information including the competition announcement and entry forms.

But the exhibitions will also start in January. From 11.1.2023 you can see the winning series of the last Fotoherbst at the Kulturhaus Osterfeld in Pforzheim.

SAVE THE DATE: Photo Autumn Vernissage on 8.10.2023 from 11.00 a.m. in Schömberg town hall, the exhibition rooms in the Kurhaus and Haus Bühler and in the street gallery throughout the town.

So much for the Fotoherbst. My appeal: Dare to take part, it’s not that easy, you have to take a good series of 8-10 pictures, print them out (or have them printed) and send them in. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. I will answer them or forward them to the appropriate people in the team.

But 2023 is also a fotocamp year. The legendary ‘exchange at eye level’-meeting that has taken place every two years since 2011 and has always been a special experience because you can never predict what will happen. It is a so-called barcamp, an unconference in which participants tell each other about their experiences, share skills or do something together. I advise you to secure a ticket as soon as possible, as the number of participants is limited. The participation fee is very socially acceptable (about 50 €), but you can also buy sponsor tickets, which are then a bit more expensive. The fotocamp will take place from 24-26.03.2023 in the visually very appealing EMMA creative centre, from where very nice photowalks can be undertaken in all directions.

If you don’t want to wait until autumn, you can visit photo festivals throughout the summer. It already starts at the end of April in Darmstadt with the ‘Photography days’  from 28.4.-07.5.2023.

From 8 to 26 May, you can go to the ‘Boutographies’ in Montpellier or a little closer, from 12 to 21 May 2023, you can explore the ‘Photoscene Cologne’.

From 1.-11.6.23, you can head far north to the `Copenhagen Photo Festival´. This year’s theme is “Rewilding”.

In June, you can also enjoy yourself in Zingst. From 04.-11.06.23, the ‘Environmental Photo Festival’ will take place on the Baltic Sea beach. From there it’s off across the whole country to Oberstdorf on the edge of the Alps. There, from 28.6. to 2.7.2023, you can enjoy beautiful photography in the high air at the ‘Photo Summit’. After that, or instead, you can go straight to the ‘Rencontres’ in Arles in the south of France. As I reported last year, there are exhibitions of artistic photography of the very highest standard all summer long. The opening week, when everyone who has something to show is there, runs from 3.7. to 9.7. 23. If you like it a bit quieter, go there later.

Autumn begins in Hamburg. With ‘Photopia’  from 21.9.to 24.9.23. As far as I’ve noticed, it’s structured similarly to ‘Berlin Photo Week’, which I’ve reported on before and for which there are apparently no dates for 2023 yet.

Then it continues with the highlight of the year, the ‘Schömberger Fotoherbst’ from 8.10 to 5.11.2023 (see above) and ends at the end of November with the `Festival of Photographic Images´ in Regensburg, into which the German Photo Book Award  is now also integrated.

So konzentriert findet man es selten. Man sehen, was ich davon schaffen kann.
